Common Period Symptoms
Share
During your period—and sometimes in the days leading up to it—you may notice changes in your body and how you feel. These are called period symptoms, and they are completely normal.
Every girl’s experience is different. Some may feel many symptoms, while others may feel only a few or none at all.
Here are some of the most common ones.
🌼 Bloating
You may feel like your stomach is fuller or tighter than usual.
This is called bloating and is caused by natural hormone changes that can make your body hold on to extra water.
It usually goes away after your period starts or ends.
✨ Acne (Pimples)
Hormones during your cycle can make your skin produce more oil.
This can lead to:
-
Pimples
-
Breakouts on the face, chest, or back
-
Oilier skin than usual
This is temporary and very common during puberty and periods.
🌸 Mood Swings
You might notice your emotions feel stronger or change quickly.
You may feel:
-
Happy one moment and irritated the next
-
More sensitive than usual
-
Easily overwhelmed or emotional
This is caused by changing hormone levels and is a normal part of your cycle.
🤕 Headaches
Some girls get mild headaches before or during their period.
These are often linked to hormone changes, stress, or dehydration and usually go away with rest, water, or quiet time.
😴 Fatigue (Feeling Tired)
You may feel more tired than usual during your period.
This happens because your body is working hard and you are losing a small amount of blood, which can temporarily lower energy levels.
Rest and sleep can help your body recover.
🍫 Food Cravings
It is very common to crave certain foods during your cycle—especially sweet or salty foods.
Cravings are linked to hormonal changes and are a normal part of how your body responds during your period.
It’s okay to enjoy your cravings in moderation while still eating balanced meals.
🌸 Sore Breasts
Your breasts may feel tender, swollen, or sensitive before or during your period.
This is caused by hormone changes and usually goes away after your cycle ends.
Wearing a comfortable, supportive bra can help reduce discomfort.
💜 Remember: Every Body Is Different
You may experience all, some, or none of these symptoms. Your experience may also change from month to month.
There is no “normal amount” of symptoms—your body simply has its own rhythm.
Understanding these changes can help you feel more prepared and confident as you grow.
