Menstrual Products
Share
There are many different types of menstrual products, and each one is designed to help you manage your period in a way that feels comfortable and confident.
Every girl is different, so the best product for you depends on your body, your flow, and your personal preference. Let’s go through the main options.
🌸 Pads
Pads are one of the most common menstrual products, especially for people who are just starting their period.
Different Absorbencies
Pads come in different sizes and absorbencies:
-
Light – for spotting or lighter flow
-
Regular – for everyday use
-
Heavy/Overnight – for heavier flow or nighttime protection
Choosing the right absorbency helps prevent leaks and keeps you comfortable.
How to Use Pads
Pads are worn inside your underwear. They have a sticky strip on the back that holds them in place.
To use a pad:
-
Peel off the paper backing
-
Stick it in the center of your underwear
-
Make sure it feels secure and comfortable
How Often to Change Pads
You should change your pad every 4–8 hours, or sooner if it feels full. This helps keep you clean, comfortable, and prevents leaks or odor.
🌿 Tampons
Tampons are small, absorbent products that are inserted into the vagina to absorb menstrual flow before it leaves the body.
How They Work
A tampon sits inside your body and absorbs blood directly at the source.
Choosing the Right Size
Tampons come in different sizes:
-
Light
-
Regular
-
Super
If you are new to tampons, starting with the smallest size is often more comfortable.
Safe Use
-
Always wash your hands before and after use
-
Change your tampon every 4–8 hours
-
Never leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours
-
Use only one tampon at a time
Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)
TSS is a very rare but serious condition linked to leaving tampons in too long. While it is uncommon, it is important to follow safe usage guidelines to prevent it.
Important Reminder
If tampons ever feel uncomfortable, you can always switch back to pads or try again when you feel ready. There is no rush.
🌼 Menstrual Cups (Basics)
A menstrual cup is a small, flexible cup made of medical-grade silicone that is inserted into the vagina to collect menstrual flow.
-
It is reusable and can last for years
-
It is emptied, washed, and reinserted during your period
-
It may take time to get used to, so it is usually better for people who already feel comfortable with their body and periods
You can try a cup when you feel ready—there is no pressure to use it.
🌸 Period Underwear
Period underwear looks and feels like regular underwear, but it has special layers that absorb menstrual flow.
Washing
-
Rinse in cold water after use
-
Wash with mild detergent
-
Air dry (avoid high heat)
Reusing
They are designed to be washed and reused many times, making them eco-friendly and convenient.
When They’re Helpful
-
Light to medium flow days
-
As backup protection with a pad or tampon
-
At night for extra comfort
🌿 Panty Liners
Panty liners are thin, light absorbent pads used for everyday freshness.
When to Use Them
-
Everyday vaginal discharge
-
Light spotting before or after a period
-
The last days of your period when flow is very light
They are not meant for heavy flow days but are great for comfort and confidence.
💜 Finding What Works for You
There is no “right” or “best” product—only what works best for your body and your comfort.
You might even use different products at different times of your cycle, and that is completely normal.
At Anza, we believe every girl should feel confident, informed, and supported in choosing what works for her body. 💜
